Difference between Hydraulic and Pneumatic Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are essential to our homes, places of work and the normal running of chores. These apparatus’ make work easier saving us a lot of time and energy. The electric scissor lifts offer a smooth lifting of heavy loads with so much ease that wouldn’t have been lifted manually.
There are two common types of scissor lifts that are commonly used; the hydraulic and pneumatic scissor lift. Both of these lifts functions are similar as they lift up heavy objects, support the objects being worked on and make work easier. However there are some differences between the hydraulic and pneumatic lifts. The hydraulic lift use liquids like oil and water to work effectively whereas the pneumatic lifts use compressed air or gas to perform work. The very main difference is that air is compressible in pneumatic lifts while lubricant is not in hydraulic lifts.
Another difference comes in their operating systems. A hydraulic lift uses closed systems re-circulating the lubricants being used; a pneumatic lift on the other hand uses open system exhausting the compressed air into the atmosphere. Therefore you only require one power source for the pneumatic system and two for the hydraulic lifts.
Pneumatic lifts are less noisy, quite clean and operates at a higher speed than the hydraulic ones which are relatively noisy and slow. Though slow you can increase the speed of your hydraulic scissor lift by using a larger pump and the power jack. This in turn will increase the volume of oil being pumped hence increasing the speed.
Another difference comes in running costs. Fuel is quite expensive as opposed to compressed air unless one opts for the use of water in the hydraulic lifts. Compressed air on the other hand is quite tasking and the labor may be costly eventually. Whichever scissor lift you may opt for, you can be sure of their being able to function properly and meet the work demands perfectly. Electric scissor lifts on the other hand are widely available anywhere you may be.
However in case of power failure in the electric scissor lifts, the lubricant in the hydraulic lift is enough to get down the scissor lift or in the case of the pneumatic scissor lift, the compressed air is enough to operate the lift efficiently.
Whether you prefer a hydraulic scissor lift or a pneumatic scissor lift is always good to keep in mind which one of them is good for you and suites your function effectively. Though the initial cost of acquiring one may be costly, the long run functionality is what matters most.
